RANGELEY — Paula Roy and other members of the After-school Adventures Geocaching Club will present a program on geocaching from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, at the Wilhelm Reich Museum. The program is free of charge.

Participants will learn about the basics of geocaching and how to use a GPS unit to find temporary geocaches hidden on the property for the program. Geocaching is a modern version of treasure hunting based on technology. Caches are worldwide, locations are given on an Internet site and people use GPS units to find them.

Roy is a social studies teacher at the Phillips Middle School. She graduated from the University of Maine at Farmington and has lived in the Phillips-Avon area all her life. She has been involved in geocaching since she was introduced at a professional conference in 2008. Roy, along with a student teacher, formed the Afterschool Adventures Geocaching Club with some students. She has personally found nearly 200 geocaches in Maine.

Participants should meet at the outdoor classroom, near the observatory. When they park, they should look for the trail to the left, marked “Tomb.” Attendees should bring water, be prepared to walk in the woods and bring GPS units if they have them. Some will be provided to use.

For information about this and other programs, call the Wilhelm Reich Museum office at 864-3443 or Bonnie Clark at 778-6637.
