AUBURN – NAPA continued its winning ways with two wins in the Auburn Rec Softball Players South Division to finish the regular season.

In the first contest, NAPA fought off a late charge by Taylor Brook Dental to wine 12-11 at Tribou Field. NAPA jumped out to an early lead by scoring three runs in the first and three more in the second before Taylor Brook came roaring back with three of its own in the top of the third.

Through the rest of the game the two teams went back and forth. NAPA scored one in the third, three in the fourth and one more in the fifth, while Taylor Brook scored two in the fourth and four in the fifth to make it 11-9 entering the top of the seventh inning.

Taylor Brook opened up the top of the final inning with two more runs to knot the game at 11. Terry Goguen answered with the winning run for NAPA.

Father and son Dave and Kevin Pontbriand led the way for NAPA. Kevin went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI s,while Dave went 3-for-3 with two runs scored, a triple and 3 RBIs. Andy Ouellette and Chris Therriault each chimed in with 3-for-4 performances. Ouellette also had two RBI. Therriault scored twice and had an RBI.

In the second matchup, NAPA lit up the Gamers, 22-7. NAPA scored six in the first, one in the second, two in the third, two each in the fifth and sixth, and finished the game with nine runs in the seventh.

NAPA cruises into the playoffs with a 10-5 record as the third-place team in the division.

Kevin Pontbriand’s bat stayed hot. He went 5-for-5 with four runs scored and an RBI. Ouellette was 4-for-4 with four runs scored and three RBIs, including an inside-the-park homerun.

Justin Robash was 4-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBIs, highlighted by a 3-run home run in the final frame. Clay Phillips played his first game in 2twomonths, coming off a knee injury, and went 3-for-3 with two RBIs.

Fast Breaks bound for Class E nationals

LEWISTON – Fast Breaks softball team of Lewiston will be going to the Class E softball National Championships in Roanoke, Virginia, on Labor Day Weekend. The team will be conducting fundraisers, seeking donations and looking for area business sponsors.

Businesses that donate $150 will be granted a spot on the uniforms worn in the tourney and $500 for the larger spot on the back of the shirts. For more information, email [email protected] or call 518-0895.

Co-ed states this weekend

AUBURN – USSSA Co-ed state softball tournament will be held Saturday at Auburn fields. team format is six men and four women. There is a $220 entry fee. Call 212-7424 for more information.
