DAMARISCOTTA, Maine (AP) — The owners of a lunch-and-dinner stand in Maine are poised for a legal fight against large, formidable, fire-breathing opponent.

The Japanese entertainment conglomerate that owns the rights to movie icon Godzilla alerted Grill Zilla BBQ in Damariscotta that its name and logo represent trademark infringement.

Sarah Burnham and Jay Swett tell the Portland Press Herald that they were told they could keep the Grill Zilla name, or their logo featuring a green creature, but not both. A lawyer from Seyfarth Shaw LLP in Los Angeles didn’t respond to a request for comment.

The next move is up to Godzilla’s lawyers. The couple, whose lunch stand is based in a converted Frito-Lay truck, ignored a June 30 deadline for action.
