Garden club

FARMINGTON — Members and guests of the Mt. Blue Area Garden Club will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, at the home of Janet O’Neil, 156 Maple Ave. They will tour the gardens surrounding O’Neil’s newly renovated house and the monthly business meeting will follow, conducted by the president Amy Palmer.

Attendees should bring a chair, a lunch and a plant to swap. Hostesses Helen Wilkey, Theresa Jessop and Bonnie Ladd will furnish desserts. Interested gardeners are invited to attend. For more information, call 645-2067.

Community lunch

FARMINGTON — Old South First Congregational Church will serve its monthly free community luncheon from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14. The menu will include barbecue chicken, pasta salad and brownies for dessert.

Delivery service will be available in the Farmington area. For delivery, call the church office during the week at 778-0424 or the church kitchen on the morning of the luncheon at 778-4438.

Free skating

READFIELD — The Maranacook Area Youth Hockey Association will host the second annual barbecue and sponsor appreciation Fun Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, with a rain date of Aug. 29, at Kents Hill Alfond Arena, Route 17.

Attendees can bring skates and helmet and enjoy a free lunch. There will be horse rides, a bounce house, a dunk tank, jail and silent auction fundraisers. It will be an opportunity for players to get together, for newcomers to learn about the program and for returning families to register early.
