This is in reference to the Sun Journal editorial of Aug. 6, “Nobody really knows extent of bedbug problem.”
Instead of writing an editorial that features an apology from Mr. LeBlanc, the Sun Journal should be apologizing. As a newspaper, the editors show their lack of journalistic integrity by printing that comment. LeBlanc is far from an expert on the extent of the bedbug problem in Lewiston, or any neighborhood in Lewiston. He was merely a man with a machine taking care of a problem.
Any “hubbub” or any “embarrassment” his comment caused was not his fault, but the fault of the Sun Journal, its reporter and editors. You don’t print statistical information given by people without the knowledge to cite accurate information. Period.
Be journalists, not just headline writers.
You do not have to print what is obviously false data to beef up a story. Readers are intelligent enough to know how important the news is without a dose of false sensationalism attached.
