LEWISTON — The Lewiston Recreation Summer Tennis Program recently held its end-of-the-summer tournament.

In the co-ed tournament, it was Janelle Tardif winning the 16-and-under division by defeating Kaitlyn Thompson, 11-9, for the championship. Tardif previously defeated Addy Fuller, 8-6, and Thompson defeated Brooks Layman, 8-0. Layman defeated Fuller, 8-3.

In the 9-and-under boys, Jack LeBlond defeated Josh Soucy for the championship, 8-3. LeBlond previously def. Caden Smith, 8-1, and Hunter Landry in a close match, 9-8 (5). Landry defeated Bram Dustin, 8-0, and Ben Ferrence, 8-4. Soucy upended Jacob Smith 8-0, and Ferrence, 8-3.

In the 11-and-under championship, Cole Ouellette def. Sam Blaisdell, 6-0, 6-2.

Maddie LeBlond won the 13-and-under tournament by defeating Siera Tibbetts, 8-4. Cassidy Tibbetts defeated Meghan Morris, 8-4, and was defeated by LeBlond, 8-1. Siera Tibbetts defeated Kyleigh Letourneau, 8-2, before losing to LeBlond in the finals.

Singles league to begin

The Lewiston Recreation Department will again sponsor a fall singles league, slated to begin the week of August 23.

Monday nights will be the men’s B and C divisions, Wednesday nights will feature the women’s B and C divisions, and women’s and men’s A divisions will be on Thursday nights.

There will be another mixed doubles league, if there is enough interest, on Sundays.

Sign-ups are either online with the Recreation Department or in person at the Lewiston Armory on Central Ave.

MTA tourney on tap

The 29th annual Pete Debevoise Memorial Tennis Tournament will be held this coming weekend, August 14-15, at the South Portland High School courts.

Competition will be held in both Men’s and Women’s Open Singles as well as in Mixed Doubles. Players of all ages and abilities are welcome.
