Bridge play

RUMFORD — The Rumford Bridge Club met Aug. 18 at the Senior Center. Results are as follows: first, Ozzie Swett and Alan Bradford; second, Eric and Marilyn Sahlberg; third, Anna Cormier and Jessie Shea. The club will meet again at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25. Beedy reunion

AVON — The 63rd annual Beedy reunion for the descendants of Aaron and Vailette Dunham Beedy will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, at the home of David and Greta Espeaignnette, 332 Mile Square Road.

Attendees are asked to bring a dish for the potluck dinner at noon, lawn chairs as well as Beedy treasures for the auction. Items for the family scrapbook are also appreciated. Call Greta at 639-2364 for directions or further information.

MEXICO — Members of the parish of the Mexico Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, will have a potluck supper at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24. The honored guest will be the Rev. Linda Kimball, who has served the church as interim minister for the past 18 months. She will retire as of Sept. 1.

Members are asked to bring a hot dish or salad and enjoy a social time. Following the meal, there will be an exit interview with the pastor and the members, facilitated by the Rev. Jane Rich of the Andover Congregational Church, UCC.

Funding available

ELLSWORTH — Start-up organizations, projects involving economically disadvantaged or disabled Mainers, libraries, symphonies, hospice care and projects related to Friendship, Maine, are eligible for funding from the Maine Charity Foundation Fund of the Maine Community Foundation.

Last year, the Maine Charity Foundation Fund distributed $96,428. The 23 grants ranged in size from $1,000 to the maximum award amount of $5,000.

Benefit supper

CARTHAGE — A benefit supper will be held Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Carthage Community Hall (old Grange Building) for Janice Berry, who has terminal cancer. Macaroni and cheese, spaghetti, beans, rolls, pies, coffee and punch will be served beginning at 5 p.m., until the food is gone.

Cost is $6 for adults, free for children 12 and under. There will be a 50/50 raffle and a Chinese auction. Auction tickets will be sold starting at 4 p.m. with the drawing at 7 p.m.

Order sandwiches

RUMFORD — The Rumford Elks Lodge will host an Italian Sandwich Night on Wednesday, Aug. 25. Foot-longs will be available for $5 and family-size, which must be pre-ordered, for $10.
