RANGELEY – A South Berwick woman on probation for drunken driving was charged with assaulting a police officer who tried to arrest her as she drank a beer at a local store, police Chief Dennis Leahy said Thursday.
Jessica Linscott, 38, of South Berwick was charged with refusing to submit to arrest, assault on an officer and violating probation, Leahy said.
Rangeley police received an anonymous tip about her on Aug. 13. Leahy said when he arrived the Loony Bin Variety store on Main Street, Linscott had a large can of beer up to her mouth. The store clerk said she had purchased two cans, he said.
Linscott has a prior conviction for aggravated operating under the influence and is prohibited from having alcohol while on probation, Leahy said.
When the officer tried to arrest her, she resisted and assaulted him, Leahy said.
She was booked at the Franklin County Detention Center and released Saturday on $3,000 unsecured bail. She is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 14.
