AUBURN — Duane A.”Burt” Burton, 55, of Livermore Falls, died early Saturday evening, Aug. 21, at the Hospice House in Auburn, with his family by his side, due to congestive heart failure as a result of diabetes.

He was born on Sept. 16, 1954, in Portland, the son of Robert E. and Carolyn (Carr) Burton. He graduated from Westbrook High School and went on to earn an Associates degree from Northern Maine Community College. He also served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Era.

Having earned his master plumber license, he worked at RANOR and most recently with Precision Tank in Jay, for 16 years.

He was a member of the American Legion in Livermore Falls, and enjoyed woodworking, mechanical tinkering, flower gardening, landscaping, the construction of his sunroom, and a variety of sports, including NASCAR.

He is survived by his wife, Rhonda (Gilbert) Burton, whom he married in 1999; two sons, Trevor Burton of Norway and Joshua Burton of Lewiston; two stepsons, Jason Smith and his wife, Becca, of Winthrop, and Micah Smith of Livermore Falls; his father, Robert E. Burton, of Portland; three siblings, Alan Burton and his wife, Cheryl, of Winslow, Donna Gaudet and her husband, Arnold, of Westbrook, and Dale Burton and his wife, Terri, of Westbrook; a sister-in-law, Sharon Burton, of Dayton; grandchildren, Bella Burton, and Seth, Scott, and Sean Smith.

He was predeceased by a brother, Gary Burton; and his mother, Carolyn.
