GRAY — David Linwood Barter, 59, died Aug. 24, surrounded by his family.

Born in Portland on April 10, 1951, the son of Forest L. and Doris L. Osterberg Barter, he graduated from Deering High School in 1969 and USM in 1977. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1973 on the USS Intrepid and USS Rigel. He married Patricia Parker on Aug. 16, 1974, and they have been married for 36 years.

Mr. Barter was employed for 32 years with the state of Maine, Department of Labor as a fraud investigator in Southern Maine. He was a proud member of the Sha-Goie-Watha Sportsman’s Club in Otisfield. His passion was hunting and he was happy just walking and sitting in the woods waiting for a few deer. His favorite times were spent in Northern Maine hunting and fishing with Bill, Cliff, Steve, Tom, Bob, Josh, Paul, Bill C. and Steve M.

He is predeceased by his brother, Bruce H. Barter.

He is survived by his parents; his wife of the 36 years, Patricia Parker Barter; three daughters, Erin Elizabeth Barter and fiance, Rick Bowe, Nicole Lynn Barter and Sarah Ann Barter Shuper and her husband Eugune E.; three grandsons, Jakob L. Bowe, Connor D. Bowe and Cameron S.L. Jordan; and many cousins, nieces and nephews and many special friends.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Maine Medical Center for Cancer Medicine for their wonderful care and would like to especially thank Allison and Cindy of Southern Maine Hospice for their wonderful support and caring.
