AUBURN — Aldana Pearl Witham Pingree died of pancreatic cancer at 4:11 p.m. on Aug. 26, at the Androscoggin Hospice House, under the watchful care of the hospice staff, her daughter, Catherine and her son, Michael.

She was born in Phillips, Dec. 2, 1940, the daughter of Dana M. Witham and Lucille Storer Witham. Aldana attended Strong High School as a member of the Class of 1959.

She was friends with classmates from both Phillips and Strong, was a member of the Glee Club and was the life of social gatherings with her energetic, witty personality.

Aldana’s high school career ended prematurely after conceiving her first child, Alan Deane Pingree, who passed away three days after birth. She later earned her GED in Farmington and studied accounting at the Auburn School of Commerce in 1971.

She is survived by her brother, Arthur Witham and nephew, Timothy Witham of Phillips; sister, Ruth Witham Goodwin and nieces, Darcy Goodwin of Chicago, Ill., Doreen Goodwin of Temple, Laurie Ann Goodwin of Auburn and Dina Goodwin of Temple; daughter, Jill Pingree Chinnery of St. Thomas, V.I.; son, Clyde L. Pingree II and grandsons, Army PFC Hazen Sawyer Pingree stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas, Marine LCPL Clyde L. Pingree III stationed at Camp Lejune, N.C., Jacob Boivin of Jay and granddaughter, Jacqui Boivin Clary of Farmington; son, Michael D. Pingree of Saco; daughter, Catherine Pingree and grandson, Adam Nile of Poland; daughter, Susan Gray and grandson, Razel Gavin of Portland; niece, Suzanne Allen Pease and grandniece, Ryley Joan Pease of Wilton; and niece, Melissa Allen Carrol, grandniece, Ellie Carrol and grandnephew, Jack Carrol of Littleton, Colo.

Aldana will be remembered by family and friends for her generosity, laughter, song and dance, crazy antics, work ethic and candidness. Her daughter, Catherine will be forever grateful for, yet disheartened by, the sacrifice of self-identity she made as a result of struggling to meet the needs of her children. Her grandsons, Adam and Razel and her grandniece, Ryley will especially miss her generosity, hugs, kisses and laughter.

She was predeceased by her father; mother; younger sister, Brenda Witham Allen; firstborn, Alan Deane; and stillborn, Jan Gray.
