PORTLAND — The condition of a motorcyclist injured in a Sunday evening accident improved from critical to satisfactory, a spokesperson at Maine Medical Center said Tuesday.
Benjamin Church, 51, of Harrison has been hospitalized since the crash Sunday. Church’s riding companion, 52-year-old Patrick J. Cadigan of Lovell, was killed when his Harley-Davidson crossed the centerline on Route 160 in Porter and collided with an oncoming SUV. Church was thrown from his 1997 Harley-Davidson after laying the bike down to try to avoid a collision.
Church had surgery for his injuries on Sunday evening, Oxford County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Dane Tripp said.
Neither Cadigan nor Church was wearing a helmet.
The SUV’s occupants, 60-year-old Donald H. Burrell and his wife, Dana, of Lebanon, N.H., suffered minor injuries in the accident and were treated and released from the Maine Medical Center.
