WILTON — An proposal for a new downtown store goes before the Planning Board when it meets at 7 p.m. Thursday at the town office.

A business that buys, sells, trades and features consignment items is something Tim Carrico of Wilton has always wanted. The small store would be located in the former Shirt Tales space at 351 Main St.

The proposed “Wilton Traders Post” would offer a little bit of everything, he said. He hopes to open around Oct. 1.

“With the economy as such I want to buy and sell at prices that people can buy,” he said. “I’ll be picky and choosy so it’s not a shop full of junk.”

He wants to move used items so that customers always see different things, he added. From tools to furniture, bikes and knickknacks, he’s ready to trade, buy and sell and plans to not specialize in any one thing but offer just about anything.

Carrico mentioned a Massachusetts shop, Traders Mart, that started small but has grown into a large company now. He’s never tried a venture like this but has always wanted that type of shop, he said.

At first the shop will only be open part-time but he wants to create a window display of items available on consignment and is willing to pick up and deliver items.

Carrico is hoping to not only bring something to the in-town area but to create something that will work and stay, he said.

The board will review the proposal for the new business on Thursday.
