Auburn school teachers Gretchen Carroll, left, and Mary Strome shop for classroom supplies at the SHAREcenter in Auburn on Wednesday. The center’s footprint at the Great Falls Performing Arts building on Academy Street has been reduced by two thirds, said director Diane Doe. But other than reduced storage, nothing has changed, she said. Because of the lack of storage area, some items are being stored at the Bates Mill in Lewiston. Local businesses donate the items that are given out by the center and 70 volunteers help organize the material, Doe said. Teachers from the 55 schools that are members of the SHAREcenter use it as a resource for free educational supplies. “I would be in big trouble if they were not here,” said Lewiston Middle School teacher Allyson White. “It really helps me stretch the budget.”
