EAST DIXFIELD — The Maine Countryfolk Music Theatre closed out its 11th season of down home country music over the Labor Day weekend. Musicians from as far away as Bangor, Solon, Harmony, Skowhegan, South Paris, Rumford and Peaks Island joined 50 other Maine musicians to raise youth music scholarship funds at Countryfolk as another successful season came to a close.

“The weekend was amazing with wonderful music, good food brought in by volunteers, campfire cookouts and spectators from all across the state,” said Larry Bisbee, operator of the venue.

“We are so proud of the volunteer support that has been given over the years to our community project. The Countryfolk youth music scholarships continue to be our focus,” he said.

Eight contestants entered the Minnie Pearl Look-A-Like Contest on Sunday. They told jokes, wore Minnie non-stylish outfits and parlayed their “Howdeeees” all the way through the audience to the center stage. Those competing were from Fayette, Wilton, Farmington, Leeds, Turner, Peru, Livermore Falls and Chesterville.

Contest judges, Lorraine Doyon of Lewiston, Donald Cummings of South Paris and Ronda Dale of Peaks Island, tallied their scores in the crowded spectator building and awarded singer-songwriter, Paula Kaiser of Fayette the overall winner.

Rik Palieri and Rebecca Padula from Vermont were guest performers during the Saturday night show. The winner of the giant pumpkin guess the weight contest was Tammy White of Peru. She won a lobster dinner for two. White came within two ounces of the actual weight of 26.25 pounds.

Countryfolk will open on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend 2011 and next year’s Labor Day closing weekend will feature an Elvis Presley Look-A-Like Contest, said Bisbee.
