Although circumstances connected with finding of the body of a man in a ditch on Winter Street Sunday morning first made it appear as if death might have been the result of foul play, later developments have convinced the coroner that death was accidental and no autopsy or inquest has been deemed necessary.

50 years ago, 1960

A spokesman for the Auburn Water District said last night that Auburn residents should “employ caution” in the use of water during the hot spell which has been baking the Twin Cities the past few days.

Earle A. Tarr Jr., assistant AWD superintendent, pointed out there is no danger of residents being without water but made note of the fact the reservoir at Goff Hill was down 34 inches at 4 p.m. Thursday; and despite the fact water was pumped throughout Thursday night, the reservoir was down 4 inches yesterday morning.

25 years ago 1985

A Lewiston woman has been awarded a distinguished service award by the Maine Court Mediation Service for her work as a mediator.

Jean Sampson of Lewiston will receive the group’s first distinguished service award at its annual workshop Sunday and Monday at Sebasco Estates. Ms. Sampson is one of 62 mediators who serve 47 district and superior courts in Maine.
