AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Maine’s attorney general has filed criminal complaints against four campaign workers for former Democratic gubernatorial candidate John Richardson, saying they falsified statements in the collection of $5 qualifying contributions for Richardson.
Attorney General Janet Mills says complaints were filed Monday against 45-year-old William Moore of Brunswick; 51-year-old Denise Altvater of Perry; 46-year-old Lori Levesque of Fort Kent and 54-yar-old Joseph Pickering of South Portland. The complaints charge them with multiple counts of unsworn falsification, a misdemeanor.
The four worked as circulators on Richardson’s primary campaign. It says they falsified documents relating to $5 contributions from voters to help Richardson qualify for public campaign funding.
Moore told the Kennebec Journal in Augusta he’ll fight the charges. Attempts to reach the others were unsuccessful.
