On Sept. 10, you published an article saying, among other things, that Eliot Cutler was acting as a “spoiler” for Libby Mitchell. If that is true, it is only because most Mainers have not researched Cutler.

It is true that he is much like Libby Mitchell in his commitment to the environment and clean energy, but Cutler will spend less money doing it.

It is true that Cutler is for gay marriage, but he wants to make it possible by engaging the public, rather than ignoring it.

Cutler also shares a few ideas with Paul LePage. Both Cutler and LePage have actual plans for economic growth. Both realize that our education system needs significant reform.

There is also some basic knowledge that seems apparent only to Eliot Cutler.

Tourism is vitally important to the economy of Maine, yet to Libby Mitchell it is only an afterthought, and LePage does not mention tourism at all.

Agriculture is important to Maine’s economy, culture, and even to national security, but to LePage it is only a dream worth a sentence thrown out, and to Mitchell it is not even worth that.

I think that Eliot Cutler is much more than a “spoiler” for Libby Mitchell, but if he isn’t, that is a loss for all of Maine.
