RANGELEY — The Rangeley Friends of the Arts will host “Fall Into the Arts” on Wednesday, Sept. 22, at Bald Mountain Camps.

The group’s mission is to “increase awareness, knowledge, education, appreciation and support for the arts by making available varied programs of high artistic quality and by related activities, and to operate exclusively for charitable, literary or educational purposes.” The group of volunteers said there is a need for a facility that will enable the programs to expand and grow.

The long-term goal is to create classroom and studio spaces for learning, creating and displaying all the arts including but not limited to visual, creative, movement, instrumental, vocal and performing. A 2.7-acre lot which abuts the school property has been acquired. The trees have been planted, the driveway is under construction and now they will investigate possible building designs. The organization hopes to share their ideas at the Fall Into the Arts event.

A plein air gathering of local artists will take place in the afternoon, scattered around the Bald Mountain Camps property creating several paintings of scenery, Mooselookmeguntic Lake, flowers and gardens. There will be a silent auction of the paintings later in the event.

The cocktail hour will begin at 5 p.m. and attendees will have the opportunity to meet the artists and view their artwork. The Rangeley Benches, designed by local artists, will be in the hands of auctioneer Steve Philbrick later in the evening. The dinner will include salmon, beef tenderloin or vegetarian options.

The PEPS, a newly formed a cappella quartet in the Rangeley region including Pam Ellis, Erin Smith, Pam Morse and Sue Downes-Borko, will perform. The Knickerbocker Group will share some drawings and information concerning the future plans of bringing an Arts Center to the Rangeley area.
