FARMINGTON — The University of Maine at Farmington will commemorate Constitution Day 2010 with its fourth annual presentation on some of the most significant U.S. Supreme Court cases in the past and upcoming terms. The event is free and open to the public and will be presented from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, in room C-23 in the UMF Roberts Learning Center.

Presented by Jim Melcher, UMF associate professor of political science and adviser for the UMF pre-law program, the Constitution Day event will feature a docket of cases that show the broad range of issues that are typically considered by the court.

“With this annual event, Jim compellingly demonstrates why the Supreme Court matters in our day-to-day lives,” said Allen Berger, UMF vice president for academic affairs and provost. “Recent changes in the court and the upcoming election season make this presentation very timely.”

The Constitution Day event this year is sponsored by the UMF Provost’s Office, Political Science Department and the pre-law program.
