HARTFORD, Conn. — Leonard H. Holmes, 71, of Torrington, Conn., formerly of Fort Fairfield, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Hartford (Conn.) Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Audrey A. (Fargo) Holmes.
Mr. Holmes was born in Ft. Fairfield, July 10, 1939, the son of the late Allen and Doris (Wright) Holmes, and had been a Torrington area resident for more than 40 years. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran and took great pride in his service to his country.
He was a retired machinist and had been employed with Pratt and Whitney in Southington, and Howmett Corporation in Winsted. Mr. Holmes, for many years had been employed as a store collections person with the Register Citizen Newspaper, where he was known by many. He was an avid pool player, sports fan and especially enjoyed the UCONN and Boston teams.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, Audrey, include five sons, James E. Holmes and his wife, Cynthia, of Harwinton, Anthony A. Holmes and his wife, Ainee, of Torrington, Leonard H. Holmes and his wife, Joan, of Saco, Thomas C. Holmes and his wife, Dena, of Westfield and Robert J. Holmes of Winsted; two brothers, Bailey Holmes of Ft. Fairfield and Alden Holmes of Caribou; three sisters, Audrey Wortman of Ft. Fairfield, Loretta York of Presque Isle and Carmen Holmes of New York; 11 grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Holmes was predeceased by a sister, Lucille Baker.
