The matinee at Music Hall this afternoon will contain many happy faces, as this will be the first Saturday since the commencement of the present school year. A mecca for the little folks is Music Hall, for at this popular theatre the children gather every afternoon on the last day of each week. The reason for this is, a good clean theatre, with clean and pleasant surroundings, and when the little ones are at this theatre their parents know they are in good hands, as the management makes it a personal duty to look after the rising generation.
50 years ago, 1960
Plans are in the making for a shopping center in the area of the Bonneau Master Market at 1035 Lisbon St., but a member of the firm said last night they are not definite enough to disclose what stores will be located there.
It is understood the Bonneaus are considering several separate stores in the center. It was reported that in the discussion stage are a laundry, drug store and possibly a sub-post office and liquor store, and a radio station.
25 years ago, 1985
Formation of the area’s first youth orchestra has been announced, with the initial round of auditions scheduled for Saturday at Bates College.
Billed as the Central Maine Youth Orchestra, the ensemble is open to all students, elementary through high school, who perform on strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion.
