HIRAM — A Parsonsfield man was arrested Friday on charges that he raped and assaulted a 16-year-old girl.

Chad A. Anthony, 20, of Hussey Road remained in jail on Tuesday after an initial court appearance. Anthony is charged with gross sexual assault and two counts of domestic assault. He also had a York County warrant for his arrest for failing to appear in court on charges of aggravated criminal mischief and operating without a license.

According to an affidavit filed by Sgt. Matthew Baker of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, the girl said Anthony had raped her and pulled her hair at her home on the night of Sept. 15. The next night, he confronted her at a friend’s house in Porter and grabbed her arm, Baker wrote.

Baker said police were unable to find Anthony after this report, but they did talk to him when he called the girl on her cell phone. Baker said Anthony told him that police would not find him, and that he would not speak with Baker because of the outstanding warrant.

Lt. Tom Harriman of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office said in an affidavit that Anthony was found the next day. Harriman said Anthony admitted to the assault charges but denied that he had non-consensual sex with the girl.

Following his initial appearance at South Paris District Court on Tuesday, Judge Paul Cote set Anthony’s bail at $2,000 cash or $10,000 worth of real estate, with the possibility of a pretrial release contract upon further review. Anthony must have no contact with the girl.
