100 years ago, 1910

GREENE — The 13th annual cattle show and fair will be held at the Grange hall Tuesday, Oct. 4. There will be a drawing match of horses, oxen and steers, and an exhibition of draft horses, oxen and steers on drag. Androscoggin Grange will provide dinners. In the evening there will be a grand ball. Poole’s orchestra of seven pieces will furnish music and refreshments will be served.

50 years ago, 1960

A Lewiston banking firm is planning to construct a branch office on Sabattus Street, it was learned last night.

While details are not expected to be announced for some time, an official of the firm confirmed a report that a branch office is in the planning stages. It will be erected on Sabattus Street, between East Avenue and Russell Street, it was reported.

25 years ago, 1985

Sandra G. Smirles of Greene has been named prehospital education coordinator for Central Maine Medical Center’s Emergency Medical Services Department.

Her duties will include organizing educational programs for area prehospital personnel. She will also be a training officer for United Ambulance Service of Lewiston and will assess educational needs and implement necessary programs.

Mrs. Smirles is a registered nurse and licensed emergency medical technician. She is certified by the American Heart Association in basic cardiac life support and advanced cardiac life support.
