Bridge club

LEWISTON — The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on Sept. 21 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Winners in Flight A were: first, Claire Lyons and Luke Merry; second, Patricia Garcia and David Lock; tied at third, Rosemarie Goodwin and Fred Letourneau with Leslie Buzzell and Nancy Lindgren.

Winners in Flight B were Marie Jeanne Lesperance and Jackie Dechesne. A Club Championship Game will be played at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, at the center.

The club also met on Sept. 22 at Schooner Estates in Auburn. Winners in Flight A were: first, Luke Merry and Paul Barber; second, Bob Barry and Claire Lyons; third, Mike Quinn and Leslie Buzzell. Flight B winners were Mary Anne Trafton and Linda Leotsakos.

A Club Championship Game will be played at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, at Schooner Estates. A partner is guaranteed at all local games. For further information, call Lucille Theriault at 783-0431.

Community meeting

LEWISTON — The Lewiston-Auburn Economic Crisis Discussion Group will sponsor a meeting from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, at 73 Pine St., in the common area meeting room.

The focus of the meeting will be on the growing debt and income/wealth inequality crisis in the United States as well as other topics.

Volunteers needed

LEWISTON — Beacon Hospice provides ongoing training and informational sessions for people who are interested in becoming a visiting volunteer. The sessions are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Thursday.

Volunteer opportunities are currently available in Bridgton, Canton, Fryeburg, Lewiston, Norway, Oxford, South Paris, Rumford, West Paris and elsewhere in Androscoggin and Oxford counties. Call Justin, volunteer coordinator, at 784-4242, ext. 11, for an application and initial interview.

Christmas for troops

AUBURN — The fourth annual Christmas Wish for the Troops will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 2 and 3, at the Masonic Lodge on Turner Street.

Donations may be dropped off and they will be shipped out to troops in time for Christmas. Requests include: books, magazines, paper, pens, envelopes, puzzles, playing cards, personal hygiene products, lightweight snacks, golf balls and hand sanitizer. Any money donations will be used for shipping.

Items may also be dropped off at 46 County Road, Turner, or at Brettun’s Variety, Route 4, Livermore.  For more information, call Russell Pack at 225-5951.
