FARMINGTON — The next topic for Prescriptions for Health is “Diabetes: The Power of Thoughts and Beliefs.” Anyone with diabetes plus his or her family members and caregivers are welcome to attend. Prescriptions for Health is open to the public and free of charge.

The diabetes presentation will take place from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, in the Bass Room at Franklin Memorial Hospital and includes light refreshments.

Motivational speaker Richard “Dick” Smith, director of community development (Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine) for Neighborhood Diabetes, will be the featured speaker. Smith has lived with diabetes for 18 years, and through his presentations, his goal is to help individuals who have diabetes gain a better understanding of the condition and motivate them to take responsibility for self-management. His talk will focus on the power of thoughts and beliefs.

“This fun and interactive presentation helps people with diabetes discover their reasons or motivations for wanting to successfully self-manage their diabetes,” said Smith. “Participants come to understand that the results we experience in life are in large part dependent upon the thoughts and beliefs that they choose.”

Registration for the presentation is required. For more information or to register, call Jodi Cordes at 779-2451 or 800-398-6031, ext. 2451.
