LEWISTON — The Center for Wisdom’s Women, a drop in center, announces the celebration of its second anniversary with an open house on from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 23.
The center was begun by The Daughters of Wisdom as Wisdom’s Center in 1999. When it closed in June of 2008, a group of local friends of the center took up the task of raising funds and reopened that fall on a part time basis.
This past year the center has expanded its hours of operation and has seen a growth in both numbers of women participants and programs. In 2009, the center logged 1,874 visits. In just the first half of 2010, it logged 1,424 visits. An average of 19 volunteers staff the center, giving more than 200 hours monthly as hosts, teachers and group leaders.
Regular activities include various small groups, support groups, health and wellness programs, a writing workshop, craft activities, scrapbooking, painting and card-making.
A holiday pumpkin carving party will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27. The full program schedule for October is posted on the center’s website at www.wisdomswomen.org. All programs at the center are free, no registration required.
