PARIS — The Paris Public Library’s 2010 Summer Reading Challenge concluded Aug. 21. During the summer, 56 participants read more than 110,000 minutes. For every 500 minutes they read or were read to, children earned a free book, getting up to three books over the summer.
The top five readers, Katerina Crowell, Alisa Dettling, Sophrinia Smith, Connor Van Worthe and Dakota Warren, received $25 gift certificates, with the top reader accumulating over 7,000 minutes.
Fourteen other children earned honorable mentions, reading over 2,000 minutes. They received $10 gift certificates. Abby Steeves, as the first reader to reach 500 minutes, was awarded a helicopter fun float.
The library also offered several activity programs during the summer, including weekly recorder lessons, a traditional story time for preschoolers, a story time for elementary school aged children featuring crafts and games and an advanced hands-on craft program.
