100 years ago, 1910
From an unknown cause, fire destroyed the large barn of the Franklin Company at Sabattus, Ash and Webster streets last night at 10 o’clock. The farm Buildings, an old landmark in this city, are leased by George W. Cook, junk dealer. He estimates his loss at nearly $1,500 with no insurance. The barn was fully insured. Both horses were saved but many hens were killed.

The Supersonic Car Wash Inc. of 982 Sabattus St. holds its grand opening today and tomorrow under the ownership of Edward Blanchard of Laurier St. and Donald Everett of Smith St. It takes about five minutes to wash a car by this modern setup. After its interior is cleaned, the auto goes through a washing and drying process on a conveyor in about one minute.

Lewiston police received numerous phone calls Sunday night regarding a possible earth tremor in Androscoggin County, but an official at the National Earthquake Information Center in Denver, Colo., says no activity was measured on the center’s seismological equipment.
Lewiston police received phone inquiries at approximately 10:15 p.m. from residents in the southeast section of the city and beyond.
Dispatcher Craig J. Chicoine said the possible tremor may have been responsible for falsely triggering several bank alarms at 10:12 p.m.
