In a six-block span, we killed four stores.

In a good way.

Think, if you will for a moment, like a big-game hunter.

We stalked, circled, sized up and, er, occasionally approached the register. (Which totally also happens in the wild.)

This week we offer part two of our road trip, The Other Freeport. Last time we ate our way over town. This week we shop, poking our heads in places that have not been poked before. Happily enough, we emerged only a few dollars lighter and with nary a scratch.

Edgecomb Potters

In a word: Breakable

This shop, on a downtown side street, is two floors of things you do not want to accidentally knock your purse against. And don’t take the “potters” part too literary; there are delicate earrings, clocks and sculptures, too. Hit the second floor (just not too hard) for sales.

* Witch balls, $18 to $34 each

In rainbow, solid colors, molted and clear, hung together as a giant, glittery window display. We’ll take two dozen.

* Little dipper fish-shaped pottery cat dish, $32

Can it be served with anything but Fancy Feast? We’d bet not.

* Rock caterpillar, $30

A string of smooth, palm-sized stones complete with metal appendages and twirly antennae, sitting adorably on a length of rough wood.  Sadly, there was no rock lobster.

Adorn Me

In a word: Cute.

Lots of sterling silver jewelry in the $6 to $8 range, an adorable preschooler playing Picasso at an easel in the corner and Graham the yellow Lab pup napping under a shelf. We could have lingered all day.

* Eikon bracelet watch, faux green leather, $14.95

One of many fun, flirty watches. Tres petite wrists required.

* Joy Oh! purses, assorted prices

From a small brown bag covered in rosettes ($34) to a green, delicate beaded bag ($27), this was bliss. Bag Lady isn’t sure why the green one didn’t come home with her. Maybe if no one beats her to it …

* Scarves, $14

Funky and fun styles, patterns and colors. We favored a purple asymmetric-ish scarf that would go fantastic with all the other purple items in our wardrobe. Um. Except we have no purple items in our wardrobe.

* Tinkerbell necklace, $10

Delicate silver necklace with a tiny fairy pendant. Playful without being juvenile. It’s hard to find a Tinkerbell necklace that can say that.  

The Maine Dog

In a word: Woof.

Catering to the four-legged set with life vests, collars, clothes, toys and treats. (Plus a few clothing and decorative items thrown in for those two-legged among us.)

* West Paw Designs Frisbee made with Zogoflex, $17.99

It took the Dobermans two years to destroy the last one, and that’s a mighty compliment.

* Squeaky plush lobster, $6.99

Nothing says Maine like a squeaky plush lobster.

* Zack & Zoey Nantucket dog polo, $15.99

A polo shirt. For a dog. Sleeves, buttons, yacht club attitude. As amazing as it sounds.

* Casual Canine dog peace T-shirt, $17.99

The same brand’s camo tee is a dollar more — isn’t war always more expensive? Likely an unintended political statement.

* Tennis Dog by Hyper Products, $20.99

 Tennis ball + tennis racket with slingshot-like design = hours of doggy fun. Now that’s a math equation for the ages.

Lovell Designs

In a word: Ornate.

A small shop in a barn just feet from the beaten Main Street path, complete with soft music and lots of display cases.

* Etched gold or silver-plated earrings, $25

Choose shells, seagulls or roosters; but really, is that a choice? C’mon, rooster.

* Cathedral window pendants, $39 for large and $29 for small

Based on the stained-glass window designs of some of France’s most famous cathedrals. Although these pendants don’t have the breathtaking color of stained glass, the intricate patterns are awe-inspiring in their own right.

* Pewter ornaments, $26

Lovell Designs keeps in its store a framed, page-long letter from former first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton thanking Lovell for the beautiful pewter ornament it sent for the White House Christmas tree. Framed beside the letter: the dove ornament that inspired such adoration. Across the room: copies of the dove ornament that inspired such adoration. Not so much a dove fan? The shop offered pewter ornaments in reindeer, tree and other designs. You dove-hater.   

* Rocky Mann pottery, assorted prices

We fell for Mann’s deep, purple dish decorated with frogs ($50.)  Hey, what can we say — the Bar Harbor-area artist knows his amphibians.

Next week: Abacus, a Freeport mainstay and home of metal moose, tiny robot clocks and friendship oven squirrels.
