DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am trying to locate someone who has knowledge of foreign stamps (canceled). I have quite a few from the 1930s from South Africa, China, Pakistan, Korea, North Vietnam, India and others. Thank you. — No Name, Mexico

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I was wondering if someone in the Farmington area collects stamps. I found some and would like to know what to do with them.

Also, would like to know if anyone has a pattern for aprons that snap up the front. They go on like a shirt. Thank you. — Becky Tyler, Temple, [email protected]

ANSWER: Sun Spots is sorry to say that stamp collecting seems to be on the decline. When she answered this same question in January, she only knew of one collector who was buying, and no one else responded to the column to say they also bought collections.

Last year, Sun Spots sold her father-in-law’s very limited collection to M.A. Storck Co., 651 Forest Ave., Portland, 774-7271. The store’s proprietor said that the market for stamps is declining, so much so that he no longer purchases the books that the U.S. Post Office puts out each year for collectors.

He said that the stamps Sun Spots sold him would most likely be used for projects at retirement and veterans homes. (It was a rather disorganized collection and most of the stamps had no real value.) Sun Spots cannot attest to his knowledge of stamps, but she felt he treated her fairly and took time to explain the stamps.

If your stamps prove to not be collectible, you could send them to Sister Gilberte Boisvert of Massachusetts, who uses them to benefit African villagers. Send your canceled stamps to her at 209 Lawrence St., Methuen, MA 01844.

Sister says: “When cutting the stamp out, please leave a little space around it so that the stamp is not damaged. Foreign stamps are the most valuable. Nonprofit stamps are of no use. There is no such thing as too few. As many as one stamp is welcome. If a SASE (self-addressed stamped envelope) or a 44-cent stamp is sent, I will send a thank-you note.”

DEAR SUN SPOTS: A few weeks ago I made a request for someone who could transfer slides onto a CD. You did answer, but I misplaced the address. Could you please print it again? Thank you. — No Name, Chesterville
