MEXICO — A local 17-year-old boy was arrested at 9:30 a.m. Friday at his home on 29 charges in connection with a burglary-and-theft spree in September.

Sgt. Roy Hodsdon said the Mountain Valley High School student was charged with six counts of felony burglary, nine counts of theft, nine counts of criminal trespass, three counts of criminal mischief, two counts of burglary of a vehicle, and one count of theft by unauthorized use of property.

The boy was released to the custody of his parents and has been scheduled for a Jan. 6 session of juvenile court.

Police identified 10 separate break-ins and thefts from Sept. 6-24. More arrests connected to the burglary spree in September and the latter part of August are expected. Most of the incidents took place on Fourth, Fifth and Pine streets, and Backkingdom Road.

Hodsdon said the value of items taken totaled around $1,000. Also, one of the incidents involved the theft of a pickup truck that was returned with $3,000 damage.

Many of the items stolen from garages, sheds, porches or vehicles, including gas cans, speakers, tackle boxes and fishing equipment, have been recovered, and will be returned to their owners next week, Hodsdon said.

The investigation during the past few weeks has involved most of the Mexico Police Department as well as the Rumford Police Department.
