BAGHDAD — R. Michael Behr, 49, of Lewiston, died unexpectedly in Iraq, Monday, Oct. 4.

He was born in Amityville, Long Island, N.Y., on Feb. 13, 1961, the son of Richard and Florence (Dilberger) Behr. He was a graduate of Oak Hill High School, Class of 1979. He then entered the U.S. Air Force, where he served for more than three years as a jet engine mechanic. He was currently employed as a civilian military contractor, working as a metal machinist for KBR — a division of Haliburton — headquartered in Texas.

He had worked for the Lewiston Water Department and several area motorcycle dealerships as a certified Harley Davidson mechanic. He was an avid animal enthusiast and loved his dog, “Milo.”

Mike was a huge rock n’ roll fan, including the band “Kiss,” as well as having a passion for motorcycles, travel, computers and aviation. He aspired to be a helicopter pilot by entering flight school in Florida after his deployment to Iraq.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, the former Cindy Morneau of Lewiston; her children, Jacey and Jacob Anderson; her grandsons, Bryce, Drake, and Gavin; one brother, Christian Behr and his wife, Sara, of Winthrop; two sisters, Diane Bouyea and her companion, Elmer Salisbury, and her children, Brian and Lauren of Rhode Island; Linda Behr and her companion, Tom Hallowell and Tom’s daughter, Kayla, of Wales; Uncle Bob and Aunt Pat Behr and their children, Christine, Robert and Michelle; and Uncle Henry and Aunt Judy Behr and their children, Carl and Audrey.

He was predeceased by one sister, Elaine Behr, in 1963.
