MINOT — John Hemond has announced his bid for re-election as a supervisor of the Androscoggin Valley Soil and Water Conservation District.

Hemond has been with the Androscoggin Valley SWCD as a supervisor from 1983 to present, serving as chairman and secretary. Hemond has also served with Maine Association of Conservation Districts as vice president from 1996 to1998 and as president from 1998 to 2001; Nutrient Management Committee chairman for MACD and as a member of the Nutrient Management Rules Subcommittee. He has also served on the Farm Services Agency County Committee, as a member of Twin County Dairy Herd Insemination and Maine Farm Bureau. 

The Hemond family was recognized as Outstanding Conservation Farmers in 1990. In 1987, the family was awarded the Green Pasture Award as Maine Dairy Family of the Year.

Hemond has had an active role in addressing nutrient management issues and concerns, building the partnership with Maine Departments of Agriculture, and Environmental Protection, as well as the Natural Resources Conservation Service.  While serving as MACD president, he assisted in the effort to obtain a substantial funding increase for districts throughout Maine for watershed improvement projects as well as general funding needs.
