LEWISTON — St. Mary’s will host the fifth annual “Chef’s Soiree: Bringing Maine’s Heritage Foods to Life by Maine’s Culinary Best” at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, at the Nutrition Center of Maine, 208 Bates St. Chef Scott Johnson, a native of Auburn, will prepare the main entree and coordinate the night’s activities.

A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Johnson was singled out by Esquire magazine as one of the nation’s top-five “rising chefs” in 2004. Johnson and and his colleagues will take attendees through the history of New England’s heritage foods, their effect on local economies and the role of agriculture in Maine’s contemporary culinary landscape.

Maine fisherman and lobsterman Proctor Wells, Jim Armaral of Borealis Breads, Mike Thompson of Thompson Orchards and Robert Bartlett of Bartlett Maine Estate Winery will also showcase the many agricultural products of Maine.

Proceeds will support St. Mary’s Nutrition Center of Maine. Founded on the belief that good health relies upon access to healthy food, the Nutrition Center promotes community health through a variety of programs including nutrition education, urban gardening and emergency food distribution.

Tickets are $100 each or $75 each if purchased prior to Oct. 18. The registration deadline is Oct. 29. Tickets will be held at the door. For more information or to make reservations, call 777-8863 or e-mail [email protected].
