Society program

NEW VINEYARD — Members of the New Vineyard Historical Society will go on their annual Mystery Ride on Wednesday, Oct. 20. Those attending should meet at 11 a.m. at the Society Room to carpool.

The ride will be held rain or shine and participants should dress appropriately, bring a lunch and a folding chair. For more information, contact Sherwood Anderson at 652-2043 or Elaine Wells at 778-2106.

Learn about lichens

WILTON — The Western Maine Audubon and the Wilton Recreation Department will host an exploration of lichens at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, at Kineowatha Park.

Amateur lichenologist and Western Maine Audubon board member Christine Blais will provide participants with information that will allow them to identify lichens, and introduce them to their various forms and the role they play in the ecosystem. She will begin with a brief talk but most of the learning will be hands-on.

Participants who own magnifying lenses or hand-lenses are encouraged to bring them. The outdoor program is free and open to the public.

Haunted events

CARTHAGE — The Webb River Valley ATV Club will sponsor a haunted hay ride and haunted house at 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 22 and 23, at the Blue Moose Campground, owned by Georgette and Mike Skidgell. The cost is $5 a person. The event is not recommended for children.

An event just for children will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24. The cost is $5. Reservations are recommended for the events. Call 562-4908.
