PORTLAND (AP) — A Portland television station has agreed to stop running a political ad attacking U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree in her re-election campaign.
WCSH-TV said Thursday it pulled the ad after determining that part of it was not factual.
The ad was paid for by the Maine Republican Party and takes Pingree to task for her travels on a private jet while stating that her fiance, hedge fund manager S. Donald Sussman, received $200 million in federal Wall Street bailout money.
The Pingree campaign asked that the ad be pulled because it was false and misleading. Campaign officials said the jet is not owned by Pingree and that Sussman never received any bailout money.
Pingree is running against Republican businessman Dean Scontras to represent Maine’s 1st Congressional District.
