HIRAM, Maine (AP) — A 76-year-old Maine woman says she feels blessed that her injuries weren’t worse after being struck in the head with a bullet that ricocheted from a sand pit across the street her home.
Yvonne Dorrity was in her front yard in Hiram on Sunday morning when the stray bullet bounced off her head and struck the windshield of her car. She told the Portland Press Herald she had an ugly bruise on her forehead, a bloodshot eye and a headache, but she declined hospital treatment.
Police say the bullet came from a .358-caliber rifle that 20-year-old Sean McNulty of Parsonsfield was firing at a gallon milk jug filled with water.
McNulty was issued a citation for reckless conduct, but Dorrity said she doesn’t blame him for what happened.
