Melissa Brimigion, 17, left, and Deni Federico, 11, sit behind bars during the 41st annual Pumpkin Festival at Farwell Elementary School in Lewiston on Sunday. Games, crafts, a scarecrow contest and a chance to put a friend in “jail” were all part of the annual PTA fundraiser. Volunteers had a goal to raise $10,000, PTA president Karen McClure-Richard said. The money is used throughout the school year to help teachers sustain their classrooms. Students enjoyed one particular game in which they could arrest a friend and put them behind bars for three minutes. School Principal Althea Walker spent a good portion of the day sitting in the jail cell. If the goal of $10,000 is made, Walker has promised to paint a blue streak in her hair. Brimigion, a festival volunteer, said her 11-year-old brother David is the reason she spent time in jail on Sunday.
