LEWISTON — Three members of the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council met on Oct. 5 at both sides of the Bernard Lown Peace Bridge to do a site visit for an upcoming peace focused event.
Chair Holly Lavorgna, Brendan Landry and Allie Lewandowski walked the bridge and surrounding area as they brainstormed ideas for the group’s Nov. 17 event to mark World Peace Day. They brought their ideas back to the full LYAC membership for discussion at a meeting on Oct. 13.
The bridge was selected by LYAC to be an integral part of the celebration due to its namesake Dr. Bernard Lown being a Lewiston High School graduate, a life-long peace activist and a 1985 Nobel Peace Prize recipient. Lown is also a world-renowned cardiologist and pioneered numerous life-saving advances in cardiology, including the direct current defibrillator.
