DEAR SUN SPOTS: Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends, a local nonprofit organization, is in need of blue spruce/fir boughs and limbs to be used for winter shelters for our feral cat “families.” Your kind and caring donation will be removed by us.

Simply call Norm at 650-8374, and he will pick up your donation. We thank you for your consideration. Your help is greatly appreciated. — Stan Carmichael, executive secretary

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Maneiacs hockey team has generously extended it hand to help “Save the YWCA.” Friday night they presented myself and Pam Gallant, executive director of the YWCA with 1,000 tickets to their games scheduled Nov. 3, 5, 14, 24 and 26, 200 tickets for each game.

Tickets will be available at a reduced rate of $10 a game with the YWCA benefiting from the entire proceeds, which will help the YWCA to keep its doors open.

Tickets will be available at the YWCA, 130 East Ave., Lewiston. Get your tickets now for an enjoyable evening.

Thank you, Maneiacs, for your support and Sun Spots for your help. — Tonie Ramsay, Auburn, 783-8490.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Why did you not include Alterations by Judy in your list of seamstresses on Oct. 19? Beside the complicated work she does on leather, she does more routine work on clothes and does it very well. She is at 906 Sabattus St., Lewiston, 783-6201. — Claire Lyons, clairelyons10@gmail.com

ANSWER: Sun Spots did not realize that Judy worked on things other than leather. Consider her added to the list.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have a book that has 80 Currier and Ives large prints and also a collection of comics from Sad Sacks published in “Stars & Strips” during World War II. Is there any place where I could take these to see if they have any value? — No Name via e-mail

ANSWER: Much of the collecting market, including books, has moved online, and prices tend to reflect whatever a particular auction on eBay brings that day.

There are still a few used bookstores around. Scott Wilson, owner of Carlson and Turner Antiquarian Books, 241 Congress St., Portland, 773-4200, said he sells both online and through his storefront. He also buys books.

Another avenue for information on valuable books is journals used by professional collectors, such as Firsts (www.firsts.com) or Fine Books & Collections (www.finebooksmagazine.com).
