Jacinto Reyes Balderas, who was born in Mexico and now lives in Lewiston, has been twisting recycled wire into works of art for the past 15 years. Balderas, whose art is on display at the Lewiston Public Library, said he was first inspired by a vendor in San Francisco, Calif., who was creating art from wire. One of Balderas’ favorite creatures is the scorpion, which he fashions using different types of wire from electrical to television cable. “I see an image of what I want to create in my head and just start working, and it’s done,” Balderas said. While most artists sketch out a project before starting, “I work in reverse order — first, I create and the drawing comes after,” Balderas said.
