NORWAY — Western Maine Health Vice President of Clinical Services, M. Patricia Cook, announced recently that Stephens Memorial Hospital registered nurse Karen Ferris, RN-C, who works in the medical/surgical department, has become certified in medical/surgical nursing.

The certification involves a two-day intensive program and exam developed by the National Certification Corporation that focuses heavily on labor and fetal assessment. A class was offered at SMH during the summer and Ferris was the first of the participating nurses to complete the examination.

Ferris has been employed at the SMH for nearly five years. She earned her bachelor of nursing degree from the University of Southern Maine. She also possesses a degree in social services and is certified in advanced cardiac life support and pediatric advanced life support as well.

She resides in Norway with her son.
