FARMINGTON — State prosecutors have dismissed sex-related charges against an East Dixfield man.

Assistant District Attorney James Andrews said Monday there was insufficient evidence to bring the case against Errol Hammond, 74, to a grand jury.

Hammond was arrested in March by Wilton police on charges of gross sexual assault and unlawful sexual contact. Hammond, a volunteer Community Concepts Inc. driver, was accused by a 31-year-old, intellectually, disabled woman of sexually assaulting her during a ride that he gave her from a therapy session to a Wilton address.

Hammond declined comment on the dismissal on Monday.

“The dismissal speaks for it self,” Hammond’s attorney, Kevin Joyce said.

Community Concepts suspended Hammond as a volunteer driver once a complaint was lodged against him, Richard Card, chief operating officer of Community Concepts, said Monday. That is the organization’s policy when a complaint is lodged against an employee or a volunteer, he said.

Hammond resigned his position shortly after the investigation began, Card said.
