A hearing on the petition of the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company for the right to erect poles and wires on the Sturgis or Beech Hill Road from Danville Corner to Littlefields will be held by the Auburn Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Nov. 10.

50 years ago, 1960

Last midnight was the deadline for motorists to obtain their fall inspection stickers. The 50-cent charge for getting the sticker is a good bargain compared to the court fine imposed for not having the car inspected. No car can be driven or parked on a public street without the sticker.

25 years ago, 1985

An application for construction of a downtown elementary school in Lewiston will be submitted to the state Department of Education and Cultural Services, even though it may not receive a high priority from the state.

Lewiston Superintendant of Schools Robert V. Connors said Thursday that he plans to submit the application to the state “in the near future.”

Connors said the School Committee has been considering construction of a new school ever since the Jordan School was closed, at which time its students were redistributed to other city elementary schools.
