WILTON — Clinton Cushman Jr., 74, passed away early Tuesday, Nov. 2, at home with his wife and pets by his side.
Clint was born in Wilton, Feb. 10, 1936, to Doris Perry Cushman and Clinton Cushman Sr. Except for a three year hitch in the service as U.S. Army military police and college, he has resided on the Weld Road in Wilton. He married Ruth Mitchell Marden and together they shared their love for the outdoors, mostly fishing and camping in the Great North Woods. This was a life long passion of his that he shared with his parents and extended family.
Clint graduated from Wilton Academy in 1954, and received his degree from the University of Maine. He worked locally and at IP for 21 years, but later followed his real calling of conducting code enforcement in small towns, and for 15 years Gorham, retiring at age 73.
He achieved the distinction of advanced certification in that field. He cared for the environment and was a dedicated supporter of both environmental causes and animal rights and their well-being. He served as selectman of Wilton for 14 years, eight of them as chairman. He was also elected as a member of the Franklin County Budget Committee for several years.
Clint was a member of the Maine Lodge No. 20 AF & AM, Consistory Scottish Rite, Kora Temple Shriners, FOWL (Friends of Wilson Lake), the Wilton Historical Society, the United States Humane Society, as well as many other organizations.
Clint is survived by his wife, Ruth; his mother, Doris; two stepsons, Vernon and his wife, Rebecca and Aaron and his wife, Jennifer; two grandchildren, Emily and Austin; he was fortunate to have an extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins, whom he loved; he leaves behind his beloved petsm Scooter, Buddy, Alfie and Bubba.
He was predeceased by his father.
