Mrs. Clara Hogan of Lewiston was picked up on Main Street, Auburn, Thursday night in a very advanced stage of intoxication. In the municipal court Friday morning she made a most fervid plea for leniency. She has several children, has to support them by taking in washings, and never again would allow the calamity water to get the better of her. She was allowed to go on probation.
50 years ago, 1960
The Twin City Broadcasting Co. yesterday received permission from the Federal Communications Commission to increase the daytime power of radio station WCOU. The station’s daytime power will be increased from 259 watts to one kilowatt.
The extra power will increase station coverage a few more miles and boost the signal within the city.
25 years ago, 1985
GRAY — Excellence was the cause for celebration at the recent open house at Gray-New Gloucester Junior High School. Master of ceremonies Phil Vampatella called the school’s recognition by the US Department of Education as one of two junior highs outstanding in the state “an accomplishment of which the entire community can be proud.”
On Oct. 1, representatives from the school joined other states’ delegations in Washington D.C. where they were paid tribute by President Reagan in recognition of their schools’ selection for the excellence award.
