LEWISTON — Lewiston and Auburn middle schools will host a new, free interactive parent-teen workshop called Families in Action. The six-session family workshop will be held once a week at each middle school with sessions running from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The next workshops will start on Tuesday, Nov. 16, at Auburn Middle School and on Wednesday, Nov. 17, at Lewiston Middle School.

Free refreshments will be provided and available beginning at 5:30 p.m. The program is open to all families in Lewiston and Auburn with students in grades six through nine.

Families in Action is an interactive, fun and safe workshop where parents and teens can learn skills for better communication with each other. The program will address issues of school success, violence and alcohol and other drugs.

It may help parents and teens get along by teaching them communication and negotiation skills that may lead to improved relationships. Studies have shown that the Families in Action program has measurable and positive impacts on family cohesion, positive attitudes towards school, less family fighting and more appropriate attitudes towards alcohol and other drugs.
