DEAR SUN SPOTS: Where can I find Kosher turkeys for sale and are there any restaurants in the L-A area that give free birthday meals? Thank you! — No Name via e-mail

ANSWER: Sun Spots checked with the meat departments of Shaw’s and Hannaford in Lewiston. Both said that they would be purchasing kosher turkeys to sell closer to the holiday, when prices come down. The man at Shaw’s said they had a few kosher birds in stock and that you should check with the meat counter.

Sun Spots feels sure that there must be other local stores or farms that sell kosher turkeys. She hopes they will write to the column so she can share those options with readers.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends will be having a bake sale on Dec. 18 and 19 at Kmart in Auburn.

It is a two-day sale, and we are in desperate need of people willing to put their baking talents toward a good cause.

Tommy’s is a nonprofit, no-kill shelter that provides food, shelter and veterinary care to feral cats. Besides its own limited resources, Tommy’s relies on the generosity of businesses and individuals and receive s no federal funding.

Feral cats are wild cats that live out their short lives just trying to survive in a cruel, harsh environment. The wonderful, caring folks at Tommy’s care for hundreds of these forgotten and neglected cats.

If you have pets at home, you know the expense of providing food and veterinary care for them. Imagine the cost of trying to provide just the basic needs for hundreds of cats. That is what Tommy’s does.

So, please, call Norm at 650-8374 to let him know that you can help. — Sherry, Mechanic Falls
