PARIS — Selectmen will discuss the results of a nonbinding ballot on whether to create a zoning plan or land use ordinance and put it to a resident vote at Monday’s meeting.
In the Nov. 2 election, Paris residents were asked if they supported preparing a land use ordinance, holding public hearings on it and having a citizens vote on whether to accept it.
Paris voters supported the measure 1,429 to 513.
The issue came up when Kathy Richardson, a Paris Hill resident, submitted a petition to the town with 12 signatures asking the town to develop a townwide zoning plan to protect historical buildings on Paris Hill and help shape development along Route 26.
At the Oct. 11 meeting, selectmen and Robin Stancampiano, certified local government coordinator for the Maine Historic Preservation Commission, discussed the possibility of a land use ordinance that affected only select areas in town, such as the historic district on Paris Hill.
Selectmen will also discuss a vote on the town’s General Assistance Ordinance.
